What to Do if My Child Has Covid
All government requirements have now been removed, but it is recommended that someone with Covid stays home for 5 days, returning to work/school when well.
As always, if your child is unwell please keep them at home until fully recovered.
For further information, see here.

Enjoy the upcoming 2-week break with your whanau and use this time to say goodbye to coughs, sore throats and runny noses – summer is nearly here! Thank you to the many parents and whanau who have helped to make a positive difference at school this term. This includes our wonderful road patrol parents and PTP tutors, who work tirelessly each week to listen to children read and give them such wonderful support! Lynnda Bouzaid, our amazing ‘Friend of the School’, who is the PTP organizer, also puts many hours and much love into developing our school gardens. Please look at the Friends of the School item below, as we really do need more of our community to make a contribution.
Term 4 Celebration
We have just discovered that 50 years ago, in 1973, our school fully opened with a roll of 170. So we thought, why not have a fun day of celebrations next term? Keep this date free – 5.30pm, Wednesday 29 November. We want to celebrate who we are, including embracing the many different ethnicities and nationalities which make up our school. We will be encouraging you to wear your national costume, share dances, music and food. We are also hoping to officially open our Bike Track.
Curriculum
Last week Dance Group provided fun workshops for all of our students. This ended with an outdoor performance from every class and an impromptu DanceSplash segment.

|
You should be receiving class newsletters about curriculum from teachers – some are emailed weekly, whilst others are fortnightly or twice per term. If you have not seen your child’s class newsletter, please email their class teacher.
Some of our students have been making bird houses recently, to try to attract more birdlife to our school grounds. Here are some examples…
|

Maddie’s birdhouse Aria’s birdfeeder

Yesterday, our Year 1-4 students participated in a Futsal tournament at the Ākau Tangi Sports Centre in Kilbirnie. It has been great to see senior students teaching junior classes the rules, as well as football skills.
We are currently developing our Year 1-6 Relationships and Sexuality programme, to begin in 2024. Next term, whanau will be invited to find out more about this and provide feedback (details to be confirmed).
We thought it might be helpful to be able to put faces to the names of your hard-working board. So, let us introduce them to you…

MOE Developments
We have received a response from the Ministry of Education to our urgent request for more classroom learning spaces. Your board remains absolutely committed to finding the best solution for our students and the learning spaces they require. A decision has not yet been made by the MOE as to whether our zone will be adjusted. We do not support it being reduced in order to reduce the size of our roll.
Over the last two terms your school board has been working extremely hard to understand the many recently legislated changes in Education, such the curriculum refresh model and strategic planning and reporting expectations. As part of this process we will be consulting with our community in term 4 over the new 2024 draft Strategic Plan.

|
ESOL Hui
We had a wonderful turnout last term to our ESOL hui.
|
|
Getting ready – all chairs were full by the time we started!
Some of the ideas which arose from this are already being put into action. As from term 4, on Wednesdays from 2.30-2.55pm our staffroom will be open to parents who would like to meet with others informally, over a cup of tea or coffee. The diversity of our community really helps to make Rewa Rewa School a very special kura. Interesting facts about us:

Friends of The School
We have quite a few jobs to complete our Bike Track over the next couple of months, which we will need help with from our parent community. Tasks include: painting road markings, building wooden ramps/fences, concreting, shifting barrow-loads of soil and planting hardwearing flax, carpentry work, donations of plants (such as flax), contacts for free paint and timber, commercial sponsors etc.
If you can help, please email details of how you can help to office@rewarewa.school.nz so that we can contact you for future working parties.
Last week Greg O’Connor, our local MP, came to look at the progress being made with our bike track and gave us some good contacts who may be able to help us with Stage 2 – the Athletics Track.

Enrolments
A reminder that if you have a younger child you would like to attend Rewa Rewa School, please submit an enrolment form for them as soon as they turn 4 years old. This helps us to manage future planning and class organization.
Activity Fees and Voluntary Donations
Thank you to those who have already paid these. Rather than asking for money throughout the year, we use these funds to directly enable our students to experience extracurricular activities, such as visiting Te Papa, gymnastics, The Resilience Programme and swimming in term 4.
The board has voted to keep 2024 activity fees at the same level as they have been for the last 7 years, but this relies heavily on most people paying them. If you are yet to pay your fees, this would be very much appreciated before the end of this term.
Student Leaders at Work
Onesie Day was a huge success last week with $327.90 raised for Wellington Free Ambulance. Thank you to everyone who helped our student leaders to make this such a successful community charity event.
