Covid-19 has begun circulating within our school community again with a confirmed positive case and a number of household contacts. As approximately half of our school has not yet tested positive for Covid-19, we remain on high alert. We are also aware of other cold/flu ‘bugs’ circulating and we have experienced an unexpectedly sharp rise in absences this week due to sickness. Symptoms include headache, sore throat, sore stomach, runny nose and cough, which are also symptoms of Covid-19.
At this time, we ask again that families please drop children at the gate or footpath and stay offsite where possible. As always, a mask must be worn at all times when coming onsite.
Over the next few weeks your child’s class may need to be working online at home if we cannot get relievers. This may happen at very short notice. Please be ready for this possibility.
It is important that everyone follow current Ministry of Health requirements:

If you are sick, stay home and get tested
Call your doctor or Healthline on 0800 358 5453 for advice about getting tested.

Staff are to observe children on arrival, checking for symptoms. Those presenting as unwell will be asked to go home or arrange for parents or caregivers to come and pick them up.

If your child has not yet had Covid-19 and is unwell with any cold/flu/Covid-19 symptoms you will need to:
- Test them for Covid-19. This is a Public Health requirement.
- If your child tests negative, continue to test every 24-48 hours for as long as your child is symptomatic.
- If your child has allergies or asthma, please administer appropriate medication and if they respond to this and no longer have symptoms, they can attend school.
- If your child has a lingering cough/runny nose caused by from previous illness/asthma/chronic allergies, please provide school with a note from their doctor verifying that your child is able to safely attend school
- If your child tests positive, please email office@rewarewa.school.nz and we will be in touch.
If your child has previously tested positive and is unwell with any cold/flu/Covid-19 symptoms, GP and Regional Public Health officials contacted recommend that you:
- Test them for Covid-19.
- Do not assume that your child cannot have Covid-19 again – recurrance and reinfection is possible
- If your child tests positive, please contact your GP and email office@rewarewa.school.nz to advise us.
As always, your child needs to be completely well and symptom-free before they return to school.
