What if… the school is notified that there is a positive case within the school?
We will:
- Work quickly with MOH using our tracing systems to identify all those who are considered close contacts – adults and students
- Personally ring parents of those children who are considered close contacts
- Work with these parents to determine when children can be collected from school to isolate at home and the process for this
- Close contacts will need to be tested following current MOH guidelines and receive a negative Day 5 test result before returning to school. This test result will need to be shared with the School Office.
- For those who test positive, please follow MOH requirements. Currently, at Phase 1, once a negative Day 8 test result has been received, you should contact the school office to discuss a return to school date.
- During isolation the school will be in touch with you about any support you may require for at-home learning.
For teaching staff required to isolate
- Any teacher/staff member who is also a close contact, will be sent home to isolate and remain at home until they have received a negative Day 5 test result. Return to work date will be confirmed on an individual basis.
- The school will do their very best to employ a reliever for class teachers who are isolating. In the even that we do not have enough personnel to cover a class/es, we may need to shift to online learning at home for all some/all students.
What if… someone in your household close contact?
If someone in your household is a close contact, your child should not come to school until cleared to do so under MOH requirements. You should advise the School Office about the close contact and Day 5 test result. If your child develops symptoms, they need to get a test and stay home until they receive a negative result and have been 24 hours without symptoms.
If a household member has received a Covid test (whether a Close Contact or not), follow medical advice about whether your child needs to stay home until a negative test result is received. Please advise the School Office so that we can record their absence appropriately.
Current Definition of a Close Contact
You are a Close Contact if you have had contact with a person with COVID-19 when they were infectious. Close Contacts are at higher risk of getting COVID-19.
What a Close Contact needs to do
Whether you are vaccinated or not, you need to:
- stay home and self-isolate from others for 10 days (7 days in Phase 2), from your last contact with the case
- get a test for COVID-19 straight away, following MOH requirements for further testing
- get another test straight away if you develop COVID-19 symptoms.
What if… you see on social media that there is a close contact case at Rewa Rewa School?
Let the School Office know (04 939 0186, office@rewarewa.school.nz). We will be able to confirm whether this is correct or not. DO NOT go spreading the news – leave that to the school’s official communication channels, as we will be following specific Ministry of Health directions.
In the meantime…
Those who are not required to isolate at home will attend school with our current procedures in place and school will remain open for learning.
