Only 3½ weeks to go and a lot to do before we close for the school year. Even at this late stage of the term, it is great that our students are still trying to reduce the amount of disposable rubbish in their lunch boxes and wear their wide brimmed sunhats whilst in the sun. We were hoping to have an end of year gathering for our families, however, with the current Covid Level 2 restrictions still in place, we have had to admit defeat. Let’s hope that 2022 brings more settled times.
Extracurricular Opportunities
EPro 8
Our two teams competed 2 weeks ago at Queen Margaret College in the EPro8 competition. They spent many weeks practising their technology challenges and then videoing their journey for the judges to see. On competition day each team worked with construction equipment, as well as an electronics kit. We congratulate Matilda, Brooklyn, Muhammed, Pranesh, Alex, Terry, Ananyaa and Eddy for the competent way in which they worked together as a team and completed their tasks with precision.

Hip Hop Dance
Our Dancesplash group enjoyed a great Hip Hop session with dance instructor Lila recently. Lots of wiggling and giggling and definitely lots of smiles as new moves were learned.
Cricket
Every child in the school has participated in free cricket lessons over the last fortnight with our provider.
ASC – Hoops & Swimming
Basketball skills are being taught to those who attend ASC on Wednesdays. This is part of the Y programme ethos which encourages children to be active. Their current programme features swimming lessons in our school pool – check out the ad in Community Notices below.
BOARD NEWS
End of Year Data and Assessment
Our teaching team is busy testing, moderating and finalising end of year data so that they can report back to the board at our next meeting. The Board uses this information to look how we can put resources and staffing in place to support our students where it is most needed. This term we have increased the number of teachers we have working in classrooms and been able to offer enrichment programmes, as well as employing additional teacher aides in classrooms.
Board Elections 2022
The MOE has advised that 2022 Board of Trustee elections have been deferred to September next year. In preparation for this, our current board will be organising a series of events as from term 1 next year, so that prospective candidates can have the opportunity to learn more about what this important role involves. We urge you to start thinking now about whether you would like to put your name forward for election.
Board Survey
We would love to have your feedback, to assist the Board in knowing what our community values. If you would like to add your voice, please complete the short online survey being emailed to you this week.
Meet the Teacher in 2022
Next year we will be introducing a new system for meeting with your child’s teacher in term 1. Instead of meeting in week 5, we will be inviting parents to book an interview on Monday 31 January, two days before school opens on Wednesday 2 February. Other schools in our area are using this approach and have found it to be a really great way to start the year, with a shared approach for each student. We will be sending out online booking information prior to the week when school starts back.

2022 Class Organisation
We welcome Liz Martindale from Crofton Downs to our teaching team next year. Liz will bring a wealth of experience and we welcome her to Rewa Rewa.
At the end of this term we will be saying farewell to some of our team, whose fixed terms are ending, including Phillippa Brosnahan, Danielle Matthews, Guadalupe Salinas and Laura Smith.
Your child’s end of year report will be sent home on Friday 10 December along with information about classes, teachers and stationery (which can be purchased online from www.myschool.co.nz).
Kathryn Berkett Fundraiser
This takes place this evening in our school hall. Fabulous raffles to win – bring your gold coins!
Working Bee
Thank you so much to the team who supported Lynnda Bouzaid to get the front garden under control. Despite the rain and mist, we beavered away and managed to fill the skip bin quickly. Our next working bee will be on Saturday 11 December and we’d love to see you then, as we’re attacking trees with berries! Please bring your own tools and we’ll supply the morning tea! RSVP to Lynnda (tonyandlynnda@gmail.com), if you are able to help out and for catering purposes.
